Gypsy Sound Revolution

Cover:  $25 // Show: 8:00 pm

As wild as the wind.  As raw as the Rajasthani desert.  As sexy as only the South of France can be.

Gypsy Sound Revolution travels the Silk Road of music to celebrate gypsy migration out of India. The sound is exotic and electrifying; the musicians are passionate and exceptional.

“Great energy, generous, well-paced and moving – GSR’s cross-cultural profile makes it a fresh, relevant and exciting 21st century project.”  Jim Horowitz, Jazz Aspen Snowmass Festival

The core team are long time friends: former Gipsy Kings drummer Cedric Leonardi and fellow Gipsy Kings alumni Mario and George Reyes (direct family of Gipsy Kings founder Nicholas Reyes)who  bring the vision for Gypsy Sound Revolution alive.  They share the stage with the exquisite musicianship of Afghanistan’s Salar Nader on tabla and Cuba’s Carlitos del Puerto on bass.

It’s been four decades since The Gipsy Kings burst onto the scene with their wild & ecstatic Spanish rumba. No-one has followed in their footsteps…until now.

Gypsy Sound Revolution has taken the raw nomadic rhythms that trace gypsy culture to the original Gypsy tribe of Rajasthan, India, featuring musicians from the Manginiyar clan, Manjoor, Nehru and Dilawar Khan.

The result - a sound evolution of the magnificent Spanish rumba, invoking the divine through music, bringing the spectacular GSR to all generations.  The butterfly represents the soul in gypsy culture. GSR celebrates a sound that sets the soul free.

Isn’t it time you turned your heart into a raging temple of fire? ~Rumi

“An exciting combination.”  Mick Jagger

“A GSR performance sets the stage ablaze.  Their awareness of the musical roots of gypsy music comes to life in a highly curated performance. The talented folk musicians from Rajasthan are seamlessly integrated into their soulful gypsy fusion.”  Jehan Johar, Programmer, Sula Fest, India
