The Los Angeles Jazz Collective is proud to present four past members of the vaunted Thelonious Monk Institute of Performance, based at UCLA and the leading incubator for the next generation of incredible jazz artists. Collectively, they have amassed an impressive resume, having performed with (to name a few): Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Bennie Maupin, Esperanza Spaulding, Marquis Hill, Joey Alexander, Lionel Loueke, Walter Smith III, Mike Moreno, Lalah Hathaway, Kurt Elling, Michael Buble, and Aretha Franklin. Alto saxophonist Josh Johnson hails from Chicago and has become one of the most sought-after sideman since moving to Los Angeles four years ago. Tenor saxophonist Daniel Rotem left his hometown of Tel Aviv to study on a full scholarship at Berklee College of Music, before coming to L.A. for the Monk Institute. Drummer Christian Euman, also from Chicago, quickly became a first-call drummer in Los Angeles even as he was still earning his Master’s degree at the Monk Institute, and is already a veteran of many musical tours of duty. L.A. native Dave Robaire has become the near-unanimous choice for jazz artists of note who visits LA and needs a bassist. Together, these four gentleman represent the very best of the emerging talent pool in Los Angeles, flooding the city with a new infusion of vitality and creativity.
