Brenda Hopkins Miranda is one of the most exciting pianists in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean today. She is a mesmerizing performer, capable of generating real fire with her percussive piano style. Having grown up with the magical blend of Puerto Rican rhythms and melodies, she expanded her sound into a superb mix of Funk, Jazz, Soul, Blues, R&B, Bluegrass, European romanticism, Spanish passion and Third World heat.
As a bandleader Hopkins Miranda has released six recordings: “Boricua on Board” (1998), “Bohemia” (1999), “Recuerdos de Granada” (2009), “Simple” (2012), “Aeropiano” (2014) and “Puentes” (2017) and has performed in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, Central and South America, the United States and Europe. She is also a recognized composer and artist on several movies, short films and documentaries.
Throughout her professional career Brenda has been active as a first call pianist on international tours for a host of Latin American artists like Ricardo Montaner, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Marco Antonio Muñiz, Pandora, Ednita Nazario, Glenn Monroig, Yolandita Monge and many others. She has also shared the stage and/or recorded with international musicians including Bob Moses, Bernie Williams, George Russel, Puya, Tito Auger and others. During her four years as keyboard player for the #1 TV show in Puerto Rico “Marcano el Show” she performed with guest artists Tito Puente, Sheila E., Franco de Vita, Beto Cuevas, Dave Valentín, Néstor Torres, El Gran Combo and many others.
Hopkins Miranda is an adventurer in both her composing and playing mixing rhythms together with the intensity of a mad scientist and coming up with something quite unlike any other music out there. She is a master of setting up various grooves and allowing the art of improvisation and invention to take hold. The varied worlds she conjures up - some jagged, others even more broken and interrupted - are at the heart of her improvisations. And she is good at it, putting the notes in the right places.
Brenda Hopkins Miranda’s rich piano themes and inventive soloing will keep you coming back for more. And she is coming to LA with her band to perform this one and only very special concert at the Vibrato Grill. Highly recommended!
