Hailing from the Windy City, improvisational jazz vocalist Erin McDougald, often referred to as the "Flapper Girl" of modern jazz, is taking both Coasts by storm upon the release of her newest nationally acclaimed album, Outside the Soiree (on Miles High Record Label); the album, which features jazz icons Dave Liebman (saxophones) and Tom Harrell (trumpets), among six other luminaries, has remained on the National Jazz Billboard charts for five weeks. She has appeared with legends ranging from Ira Sullivan to Johnny Frigo and modern masters such as seven-time-Grammy-winning- drummer, Paul Wertico, and the globally renowned multi-instrumentalist Nicholas Payton.
McDougald's elastic vocal range, dynamic use of rhythmic nuance and her brilliant arrangements of standards and obscure jazz compositions, along with her original music, enchant jazz aficionados and neophytes alike with a comfortable, self-deprecating and engaging presence on stage only off-set by a noir-type elegance in stature. Praised by reviewers from Germany to NYC, and chosen by Downbeat in the May 2018 Editor's Pick, Miss McDougald has captivated NYC audiences earlier this month with more touring dates forthcoming with revered Bebop guitarist Bruce Forman.
Erin has been interviewed by numerous publications for her artistic lyrics and arrangements on her new album --including World Poetry Radio and, Riveting Riffs International Music Magazine, which emphatically declares in their review of her singing: "Her vocals are often compared to iconic jazz singers of yesteryear, but, perhaps it is time that the jazz community and its listeners start referring to Erin McDougald as the gold standard to which all others aspire... because years from now, when they talk about iconic jazz vocalists -and Erin McDougald's namers comes up- you will want to be able to say you were at one of her concerts".
May 30th is a date not to be missed at Vibrato Jazz!
