Featured Artist: Steve Weingart
Born in Dayton, Ohio, Steve Weingart began his musical journey studying classical piano from the young age of 3. His first performance recital was at age 5. He performed publicly and began a choir organist/pianist residency at the family church that lasted until high school graduation. Throughout his upbringing in classical piano studies, he was exposed to many popular bands in the late 60’s & 70’s. Steve credit’s his move toward jazz to, as he calls them, ‘the big 3’: Joe Zawinul, Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea. It was in studying these pianists/keyboardists and their bands that led him to the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. He recognized the call to the professional performance life and left the university to play in jazz bands and top 40 bands which led to opportunities of travel and further experience in music study. After a few years of various road bands, he settled down in Cincinnati, Ohio to perform with top 40 bands, jazz/jazz fusion bands and was active in the local studio scene.
In 1994, Weingart moved to Los Angeles to broaden his opportunities. There, he found himself meeting many musicians who invited him to new musical endeavors. From there, Weingart found himself immersed in the LA scene and became a seasoned collaborator recording and touring with legends like guitarist Steve Lukather, drummer Dave Weckl, bassist Victor Wooten, drummer Simon Phillips, and saxophonist Dave Sanborn.
He has composed and self-released 4 albums: ‘Dark Blue Dream’, ‘Dialogue’, ‘Observatory’ and most recently a project with his wife, vocalist Renee Jones, ‘Oasis’.
